Career Day with General Crane!
At the Pompano Beach Boys & Girls Club

Saturday July 12th, A team from General Crane spent a day at the Pompano Beach Boys & Girls Club with 150+ teens, progressing them through different stations, some of which included crane operation, welding, brick laying, steel fabrication, and dirt equipment operation.

This was done as part of the “Generals” group formed by the Construction Association of South Florida and your very own General Crane USA. The program promotes and educates teens in all aspects of the construction industry. The “Generals Club” and the Boys and Girls Club are going to build a Construction Academy School.

The events special guest speakers were the Pompano Beach City Manager, Keith Chadwell and Sheriff Al Lamberti.

On April 7 2009 the Stephanis unit with the Boys and Girls Club
took a field trip to General Crane USA

The day started with an orientation informing the youth about the crane industry and its various career levels. The youth viewed 2 videos about the industry, proper safety on a construction site and standard signals needed to operate a crane. According to a recent article in the Boys and Girls Club newsletter, “The General Crane USA team was very informative, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their careers.”

The youth were taken outside for a hands-on opportunity to watch the function and safety of the crane operation as well as to get on the crane and experience its instruments and operation signal’s when it operates. The teens were very impressed as well as the staff. They enjoyed learning about the hand signals that must be memorized for proper safety and use. We look forward to our next Boys and Girls Club field trip to General Crane USA as we recruit more teens into the Construction Club.
